Improving Primary Education: How My Handwriting App Helped Over 1 Million Students in Turkey

I would like to share with you my experience of building a handwriting app for the Ministry of Education in Turkey. As a non-profit project, the aim of the app was to help primary school students improve their handwriting skills through a digital platform.

Background: In Turkey, improving handwriting skills was an essential part of primary education. However, due to various reasons, some students struggle with this new aspect, which can affect their academic performance in the long run. I applied for the contest of the Ministry of Education called “The Teachers who made a Difference in Education”. Therefore, I developed an app to improve handwriting skills among primary school students using a digital solution that could provide students with a fun and interactive way to learn and practice their handwriting skills.

My contribution: I developed a handwriting app that included various features, such as tracing letters and words, freehand writing, and word recognition. The app was designed to be user-friendly and engaging, with colorful graphics and animations that made learning fun for young students. The app was both a stand alone app and a web based app, allowing students to access it from anywhere.

Impact: The app proved to be a success, with over 1 million primary school students using it to improve their handwriting skills. The feedback from students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting significant improvements in students’ handwriting after using the app. The success of the app also led to my being interviewed by several press outlets, including local newspapers and websites. It was surprising for the people to see an English teacher build a great app that is challenging even for the developers.

Conclusion: Developing a handwriting app for the Ministry of Education in Turkey was a challenging yet rewarding experience. Knowing that my work had a positive impact on the education of over a million students is a feeling like no other. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an important cause and am proud of the success of the app.
